We have developed six programs designed to meet the needs of the community.
Senior Dog Rescue is geared to rescue older dogs (6 years and older) and place them with permanent, loving families. The dogs will come from a variety of places: local shelters, elderly persons who are moving to assisted living facilities, families of deceased persons, etc. The dogs live in foster homes while awaiting the right adopter. This allows evaluation of each dog in a normal home environment.
Senior-to-Senior Program is for those 60+, and provides free adoption of senior animals. The goal is to allow more senior people (60 years of age or older) to adopt our senior dogs.
Senior Pets Food & Vet Assistance is geared to help some of our older animals find a good home.
Heart to Heart provides an opportunity for teens to bring shelter animals to senior health care facilities for visitation and socialization. This is a three-way learning program for the teens, animals and the senior citizens. This program models healthy lifestyles and teaches youth about responsibility and unconditional love as they learn to understand and respect both pets and the senior citizens.
Fido & Friends provides pet visits by volunteers to local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Urban Outfitters is a unique program! People of all social and economic situations have pets that they love. However, many families face daily the decision of providing food for their family or properly caring for their dog or cat. Often these animals end up hungry or cold or at the animal shelter awaiting euthanasia. This is where Urban Outfitters comes into play. Urban Outfitters is a non-judgmental, non-confrontational program. Each week we will pack our van with collars, food, treats, kitty litter, dog houses, etc. and drive into areas where there is a need. This items are distributed free of charge.
Future goals include plans for a shelter to be built on six plus acres in Forsyth County. There will be six buildings, outdoor runs, and a large communal cattery with individual rooms for nursing mothers. Hopefully we will be able to provide temporary homes to over 200 animals at any given time. Future goals also include a 50-acre animal sanctuary in Forsyth County. It will be created to provide a haven for those animals that have not been adopted and for lifetime care for those animals that have lost their human companions to death or disability.
